A homeowner was worried about a large oak (Quercus) in her backyard. I performed a Level 2 Tree Risk Assessment. After a root flare excavation, I discovered significant problems with the root flare including decay.
For several years, excess soil and organic matter were placed on top of the critical root zone and trunk flare leading to decay. Our client received a thorough explanation of the health of this tree and an associated risk rating. We also provided mitigation options to aid in her decision making for next steps for this tree.
